Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born August 8, 1989, in Paris. When she was five, she relocated from London to Oxfordshire where she attended The Dragon School. When she was six years old, Emma was aware she was going to become an actress. For many years she trained at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school in which she was taught the art of acting and dancing. In a school play and an Stagecoach production, Emma was as the lead role at age 10 and performed. In 1999 casting began in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was initially discovered as a casting agent by her Oxford drama instructor. After eight auditions consistently, producer David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been selected as the three main characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's first screen appearance came with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's premiere in the year 2001. The movie set records on the opening weekend and revenues, and was the top-grossing 2001 film. It was highly acclaimed by critics, as were the performance of three young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a well-read British publication, has praised Emma for her exceptional performance. Emma was later awarded five prizes to honor her role in the movie.
